Brand Y ~ Y = You

“Regardless of age, regardless of position, regardless of the business we happen to be in all of us a need to understand the importance of branding. We are the CEO’s of our own companies: ME Inc. To be in business today, our most important job is to be the head marketer for the brand you call You”. – Tom Peters in Fast Company

· What is a brand? A brand is how you present yourself to the world. A cohesive image that positions you in your work, school, and in life. By consciously choosing how the world will see you, you can begin to shape your brand.

· What does a brand consist of? All that you are and even all that you are aspiring to be including but not limited to your education, your passion, your goals, your work experience, your community engagement, your life experiences (travel, hobbies, awards, and more), your appearance, and your behavior. Pull it all together and it is your “Brand Y ~ Y = You”.

· So, when should you develop a brand? NOW By creating a brand, you are choosing to purposely influence how the world sees you.

· Is there a difference between a personal and professional brand? That will depend on the person, but more than likely no – which is why an everyday person can BE a brand ambassador for some of the most popular companies*, even You! We can talk more about that in another post soon, but stay with me now.
